Main Building

The teaching and learning activities are conducted in two main buildings, D Building and KLMB Building. These buildings are equipped with standard safety equipment, such as a fire extinguisher for each room and additional tools for several strategic meeting points. Safety measures are also enhanced with evacuation routes, emergency stairs, and meeting points which comes handy during disaster outbreak (such as earthquake or volcanic eruption from Mount Merapi).

Laboratories

Laboratories are essential facilities to support technical and practical activities. At the earlier period, Environmental Geography operated seven laboratories, but since January 13, 2016, the seven laboratories in the Department of Environmental Geography were merged into three laboratories, namely:

  • Laboratory of Population and Economics Resource
Field of science: Population, Employment, Migration, Economics Resource, Settlements, Cities, Human Resource Development, Agriculture Geography, Political Geography, Geography Industrial.
  • Laboratory of Environmental Geomorphology and Disaster Mitigation
Field of science: Coastal Geomorphology, Karst Geomorphology, Environmental Geomorphology, Soil Geography, Disaster Management.
  • Laboratory of Hydrology and Environmental Climatology
Field of science: River Hydrology, Limnology, Geohydrology, Hydrometeorology, Water Quality, Watershed Management.

Apart from that, there are also other laboratories in the Faculty of Geography, including:

  • Laboratory of Cartography
  • Laboratory of Remote Sensing
  • Laboratory of Geographic Information System
  • Laboratory of Regional Dynamic
  • Laboratory of Regional Spatial Planning

Each laboratory comes up with state-of-the-art tools and equipment. Hydrology and Environmental Climatology Laboratory was awarded with ISO 17025:2005 from Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN)/National Accreditation Committee for quality assurance. Administrative and laboratory staff are provided with necessary computer facilities, while lecturers and students work on their own laptops to adjust to their own needs and schedules. Students can obtain some licensed software provided by the university.

Library

Students can enrich their references with the collection provided by two libraries: faculty library and UGM Central Library. The faculty libraries are owned by and located in the Faculty of Geography, while UGM Central Library is located around 300 m from the faculty. To ease rapid travel from one location to another, the university provides buses, and electric car. The faculty library used to locate in the old building and was relocated to the new building in 2009 until today due to the new building construction (D and KLMB building) which lasted for five years.

There has been a notable increase in the number of library visitors, particularly students who registered as members, and the number of circulating books from year to year. However, during the building construction period, which lasted from 2010-2015, the number of visitors saw a slight decrease given the fact that the library was relocated to a smaller area.

In addition to providing students with printed copies of books, faculty library and university central library, also provide students and lecturers with digital materials through subscription to online journals: Science Direct, Springer link, EBSCO, ProQuest, Scopus, and JSTOR, which is made accessible from, https://lib.ugm.ac.id. Students can easily access library collections in the faculty library during the work hours with extended opening hours until 7 PM as a way to provide students with better service to support their activities. The University Library also provides numerous references, which is made accessible for free using UGM ID or email provided by the library staffs, who are constantly there to help students deal with their administrative problems.

Student Dormitories, provided by Universitas Gadjah Mada (by application – Sekip Dormitory for International Students)

Universitas Gadjah Mada provides first-year students with dormitory facilities , especially those from out of town. Guest lecturers invited by the faculty for training, exchange of science, art and culture, and guests of the study programs, institutions, and study centers in collaboration with UGM are also provided with dormitory facilities during their stay. UGM has 6 student dormitories, located in different sites: Darmaputera Dormitory for the males and Kinanthi for the female.

Student Dormitories at Parangtritis

Student dormitories at Parangtritis are integrated with Parangtritis Geomaritime Science Park. This dormitory is often used as a stopover for Faculty of Geography students when conducting Field Work.

Field Laboratory (Parangtritis and Bayat)

Universitas Gadjah Mada has various field campuses to support student field activities. The field campuses include the Geological Field Station in Bayat, Klaten, Central Java Province and the Parangtritis Geomaritime Science Park in Parangtritis, Bantul, the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The field campus serves as a site for earth science research and as a temporary shelter to stay.

Environmental Health and Safety Standards

For health and safety reasons, smoking inside the building is strongly prohibited. The university operates health care facilities known as Gadjah Mada Medical Center (GMC) comprising various medical units to provide students, lectures, and academic staff as well as their families with medical services upon needed.

Academic Portal

The university provides students with an academic portal, known as Simaster and eLOK to make it easier for students to register, monitor academic progress, view learning materials, and update any academic-related information.

Internet Access

Wi-Fi Access is widely made available for students within the campus environment using the UGM email login (Single Sign On) with a customized profile. Every student is required to have this email ID to access any information and resources at the faculty and university.

Others Facilities

The faculty also provides students with spacious air-conditioned classrooms, canteen, and prayer rooms (Al Ardhu Mosque). Photocopy, internet connection, sport and recreational facilities, campus bicycles, and a vast parking area are also made available for students.
