Lecturers of International Undergraduate Program in Environmental Geography are qualified in their field and have gained international recognition with the academic qualification of professors, doctors, and doctoral candidates. The area of expertise of these lecturers range from geomorphology, hydrology, and social geography. The lecturers of the International Undergraduate Program in Environmental Geography is presented in the following table. In addition to internal lecturers from Environmental Geography, the faculty also invites foreign lecturers, consisting of adjunct professors, guest lecturers from partner universities, and practitioners from international organizations and institutions.

Lecturers of Environmental Geography are engaged in and actively participating in the relevant professional and academic associations, such Indonesian Geographer Association, International Association of Geomorphology, International Geographical Union, Indonesian Demographers Association, Association of American Geographers, Population Association of America, Asia Population Association, Southeast Asia Geographer Association, International Union of Speleology, and Indonesian Groundwater Association. Participation in the congress and conferences of those academic associations is a good platform for updating and refreshing new research ideas, which substantially enhances the lecturers’ capacity. One of Environmental Geography strategic plans is to enhance the international reputation of Environmental Geography faculties, which is aligned with the mission of Faculty of Geography and Environmental Geography.

Environmental Geography is supported by lecturers with various scientific backgrounds, such as geomorphology, hydrology (including climatology), population geography, and resource geography. Having various disciplines could be an advantage for the study program to develop its scientific foundation. The distribution of lecturers according to their scientific backgrounds is presented in the figure below.

The lecturers comply with the main assignment and competence of their scientific discipline in delivering course work. Most lecturers (92%) already got lecturer certification as proof of their competence. The lecturers in Environmental Geography hold doctorates and master’s degrees and 6 of them are Professor and 12 are Associate Professor. The detailed figure of the lecturer’s composition based on their latest education are presented in Figure 5‑2. Based on academic rank classification, 15% the lecturers at Environmental Geography are Professors, 32.5% are Associate Professor, 31% Lecturer, and 26% Assistant Lecturer. Therefore, Environmental Geography has highly qualified lecturers, which has given an enormous potential and strength to the department and Faculty of Geography.


Figure Position and the Latest Education of Lecturers in Environmental Geography

In addition to the lecturer, Environmental Geography has three types of supporting staff, including library staff, laboratory technician, and administrative staff. The library staff have a qualified background in providing a reference service for students and academic staff and are managed by the faculty. On the other hand, the laboratory and administrative staff are managed by Environmental Geography. To enhance the capacity and skill of the laboratory staff, Environmental Geography sends them to participate in training and courses according to their competency. In order to increase staff capacity, they need to attend or participate in the workshop and training which covers various areas such as administration, finance, management, laboratory and management safety, laboratory instrumentation and library management and services.
